To apply for ENERGY STAR status, EPA requires that you retain the services of a Licensed Professional (LP) to approve and verify your application for certification. This LP may be either a Registered Architect or a Professional Engineer.
If you have a building that qualifies (i.e. scores 75 or higher) but you’re not sure how to find an LP to verify your application, check out ENERGY STAR's LP Finder https://www.energystar.gov/buildings/lp_finder.
The LP Finder tool includes detailed information on nearly 4,200 LPs who have completed at least one verification of an ENERGY STAR application. You can search by location, property type, name, or a number of other criteria.
Once you are working with an LP, share this ENERGY STAR Guide for Licensed Professionals with them. The Licensed Professional’s Guide provides everything they'll need to know about verifying applications for ENERGY STAR certification. It outlines the step-by-step application process, and is required reading for anyone verifying applications for ENERGY STAR certification.
